"The Old Boy"

To thank you for signing up for my newsletter, I’d like to share a short story with you that I”m quite proud of.

This was written to submit to anthology themed “Australian fairytales”. When I saw that prompt, I was immediately swept away into the national parks where I have hiked, mountain peaks and rock formations that have stood for millions of years. The way the heat shimmers on the horizon. The way you could easily get lost and wander for miles.

I also grew up on a rural property where kangaroos are a common sight and I know that they are not just cute and fuzzy. Males in particular are incredibly strong and can be dangerous. You don’t want to pick a fight with them.

This is what I was channeling when I wrote The Old Boy. Click here to download a PDF of the story.

I hope you enjoy!
