Hello and welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a blog hop wherein writers share an excerpt from their current WIP that somehow relates to the date. To join in, simply click the blue linky up there to the right.
Erm. Hi there. So I haven’t been around much lately? After a few weeks of really great writing sessions in January, it all stalled a bit this month. But then I had a vague idea for a short story, which actually turned into something that I could use in Memories and Magic, and suddenly I am back with Clara and Mathias. Clara has actually potentially undergone a name change, but I haven’t completely decided on that, so she’s still Clara for now.
I’ve also decided in the interests of both my blogs getting some activity, I’m going to alternate my Wednesday posts between here and A Keyboard and an Open Mind… That way, I might actually find the time to visit everyone else who participates in each blog hop. I thought that with no studying this semester, I’d have all the time in the world for blogging. That might be the case after mid-April, but with all the training I’m currently doing for my Nepal trek… yeahno.
But onto the WIPpet. I have added the digits of the date and the month together, and I have five sentences. Clara is trying to work out why people would have targeted her flat (up five flights of stairs in a dodgy building) for a robbery. Her only valuables are of sentimental value, not monetary. This is one of them.
One was a plaster Liberation Day figurine she had been given when she was young. It had been plain white plaster when she received it, and her mother had taken her to a class where she and several other children had painted their figures together. Young Clara’s skill had not been great, and the solid red of the flag was the only part she managed to accurately depict. There was no differentiation between the rest of the revolutionary’s uniform and his face and hands. They were all a smear of blue, red and yellow.
Did anyone else do this as a kid? I remember a fairy I painted at one point, and I think there were some smaller items my mum displayed on the bookcases.
Anyway, time is getting away and I still need to do some exercise and load the dishwasher before bed. Catch you all soon! Have a great week!
