#WIPpet Wednesday – August 2, 2017

Sorry for my absence last week (except not sorry, because it was my birthday and I was at the theatre) and for not making it around to your posts the week before. I had intended to visit your posts last week, but that just didn’t happen. A lot of things have just not been happening over the past month or so. But August is a new month, and I have a spreadsheet to track not only writing but all my other goals as well. I’ve cleared my desk so that computer work will be done there instead of sitting in bed, where it’s so easy to just nod off…

I’m currently revising the first draft of Memories and Magic, so I’ll share a WIPpet from the section I’m editing at the time. We left Clara hiding from the  Magic Guard, who were chasing her down after she accidentally used magic (again). She has escaped the bakery where she was hiding, but her pursuers are close behind.

“There she goes!” she heard someone exclaim behind her. She tried to put on an extra burst of speed but it was getting hard for her to suck in enough air to simply maintain her current speed, let alone go any faster. She wished she was safe in her bedroom, away from all this fuss, with a cold glass of water in one hand and a fan in the other.

And that was when it happened. The world blurred for a second, then she really was in her bedroom. For a moment, she simply stared, waiting for it to disappear again. It had to be a trick. She had been miles away from home.

“I do not have magic powers,” she muttered to herself. “I am not magical.” She took a few tentative steps to the bed and sat down, putting her face in her hands.

“This is impossible.”

Is it, though? 😉
