#WIPpet Wednesday – June 14, 2017

Hello and welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a blog hop wherein writers share an excerpt from their current WIP that somehow relates to the date.  To join in, simply click the blue linky up there to the right.

I’m sorry that I’ve barely been around the past couple of weeks. I really should have called an official hiatus the second South Pacific went into production week, but for a while there, I thought I’d have a bit more time for blogging than I ended up having. The run is down now; we played to ten packed houses (two completely sold out) and everyone loved us.

On that note, welcome to all the new WIPeteers who seem to have joined us in my absence. I’m the one that everyone thanks for running the linky, even though sometimes I am flaky and forget to reset it (not too often, but it did happen last week or the week before). It is great to have you and I look forward to learning more about your WIPs.

I’m now revising the first draft of Memories and Magic, so I’ll share a WIPpet from the section I’m editing at the time. This excerpt is 7 lines from Chapter 3. 7 is 14 (the date) divided by the two in 2017. Clara’s parents have been removed from their prison cells, but Clara has been left in hers.

“Where are you taking them?” Clara asked. “What about me? Are you leaving me here alone?”

“General Bauer has a use for you,” one of the guards said.

Clara didn’t know what he meant, but her stomach knotted at the comment. What use could that possibly be? And did that mean that the General didn’t have a use for her parents? If that was the case, then what was going to happen to them?

There is so much to fix up in this first draft. Already I’ve left comments for myself such as “This paragraph is boring and awful. Rewrite it all”. I would never be quite that blunt when reading someone else’s work, but it’s okay when it’s my own. It will be stronger for all these comments, but it is going to be intimidating at the end.

That’s all from me now. I will head off and catch you on your own WIPpets soon enough!

  1. Oh no. this does not look good. *chews nails*

I love your comments to yourself. I’ve been known to write “blah, blah, blah” when I find a boring section in mine. 😉

  2. This is interesting! I’m curious where they are taking Clara, and who exactly is General Bauer?
Looking forward to more WIPpet Wednesdays 🙂
    Cheers,
