Welcome! This month I’m writing a small story each day to try to brainstorm a future full-length novel, a sequel to my current WIP Memories and Magic, which is tentatively titled Rebels and Rebellions.
Today’s prompt is: Moment.
Clara winced, trying to struggle, as Eddon Syl squeezed her arm to make the blood well up in the cut. Once satisfied that enough had pooled there, he smeared some on his finger and then reached for Clara’s forehead. She tried to turn her head away, but one of the other men grabbed her roughly on either side of her head and twisted it back towards Syl.
She winced again as the slimy feel of Syl’s finger traced a shape in blood on her forehead. When he was done, he pressed lightly down on the Rune (for Clara assumed that’s what it was).
The transformation happened in a split second. One moment, Clara had been control of her own faculties. The next, her own consciousness was relegated to a small corner at the back of her mind.
She was completely at the mercy of Eddon Syl.
And that’s it! The Story a Day in May challenge completed. I’ve really enjoyed participating, and I only missed one day. I’ve also written just over 10000 words this month, which I’m really pleased with, given that some days I had trouble squeezing out 100.
I’ve got some world-building ideas that will help me with both Memories and Magic and Rulers and Rebellions. I have new characters to play with and the bare bones of a plot for Rulers and Rebellions as well. I have another week and a bit dealing with university work and performances, but after that, I will be completely free of external obligations for a couple of months! I can’t wait to dive properly back into Thelidon and Rachara and continue bringing these stories to the page.
Thanks for coming on this journey with me, and I hope to see you around here in the future!
P. S. I was so keen to get this up this morning before I started uni work that it totally didn’t occur to me that it’s Wednesday and to format this as a WIPpet Wednesday post. Between trying to get a 3000 word essay written and it being production week for South Pacific (which means being at the theatre from about 6pm until nearly midnight every night, with opening night on Friday), things are very easily slipping my mind! On that note, apologies for being late resetting the WIPpet linky as well. It’s all ready to go now.
